About 2P2C
“The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better.“
― Robert F. Kennedy
Improving care when it matters most
The Prehospital Paediatric Critical Care Organisation – 2P2C – is a collaborative initiative dedicated to improving the care of critically ill and injured children and neonates across Northern Europe.
Severe paediatric emergencies are uncommon, complex and highly demanding. Prehospital professionals must often make critical decisions and perform advanced procedures under intense pressure, with limited resources and little margin for error. Because these situations occur infrequently, even experienced clinicians need realistic and repeated training to remain prepared.
2P2C brings together clinicians, researchers and educators from prehospital emergency medicine, paediatric anesthesia, paediatric intensive care and medical simulation. By combining clinical expertise with educational innovation, we aim to strengthen preparedness, clinical performance and teamwork throughout the entire chain of care.
OUR APPROACH
Our work is built around three closely connected areas:
Highly realistic training
We develop immersive, high-standard training programs that prepare prehospital teams to manage critically ill and injured children, neonates and obstetric emergencies.
Our courses combine technical skills training with complex, realistic scenarios that challenge clinical decision-making, leadership, communication, teamwork and scene management.
Research and innovation
We study how technical simulation, high-fidelity training and cognitive resilience can improve performance in rare and high-stakes emergencies.
Through research and continuous evaluation, we aim to identify the most effective ways to develop, maintain and translate essential skills into clinical practice.
Knowledge sharing and collaboration
We create a platform for exchanging knowledge, experience and best practice across professions, organisations and national borders.
Over time, 2P2C aims to contribute to the development and implementation of high international standards for prehospital paediatric critical care.
Working together across the chain of care
2P2C is developed through collaboration between leading clinical and educational environments, including the Danish Air Ambulance, Paediatric Anesthesia and Paediatric Intensive Care at Odense University Hospital, Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation, and the Research Unit for Medical Education at the University of Southern Denmark.
By connecting expertise from the prehospital and hospital sectors, we seek to improve continuity of care—from the first critical interventions at the scene to stabilization, transport and definitive treatment.
Our vision
Our vision is to establish a strong Northern European community dedicated to advancing prehospital paediatric critical care through realistic training, research, collaboration and a relentless commitment to excellence.
